Vacancy description:
We are recruiting for an independent multi-disciplinary consultancy with some 13,000 staff world-wide, of which about 1200 are based in the Middle East. Although they have almost 100 design professionals located in the UK, USA, India and the Middle East, the latter is only recently established and is a priority for growth. Because of this and due to a recent major project win, they now have an urgent requirement for a Public Realm Design Manager to undertake a challenging full-time site-based role on one of Abu Dhabi’s largest and most prestigious projects.
Job profile:
The successful candidate will be a key member of the lead consultant’s infrastructure design team and will be the discipline leader responsible for day to day management of the public realm design. They will report to and be supported by the project’s Interface Manager, who reports directly to the Project Manager. Although this role is mainly focussed on the landscape architectural package, the Public Realm Design Manager, together with other discipline design managers, will assist the Interface Manager to coordinate and integrate major water features, lighting, landscape structures, traffic and access, roads, bridges, utilities and adjacent private developments. The Public Realm Design Manager will manage two separate landscape architectural sub-consultant firms undertaking the landscape design and documentation, including review and approval of their work. The role also requires close working with other disciplines making up the broader project team to identify, assess, resolve and manage public realm design issues and to provide clear instruction as the design and documentation progresses.
Candidate specification:
We would expect candidates to have: a minimum of 10-years experience of designing, documenting and/or managing public realm and landscape projects; a landscape architecture or related qualification and be fluent in spoken and written English, particularly where reports and correspondence are concerned.
Patience and resilience for living in a foreign country and sound people skills for dealing with clients and other professionals from different cultural backgrounds is a key requirement, as is having a good eye for detail.
Candidates must be able to show, by reference to past experience, that they have the ability to deliver projects on time, within budget and to the satisfaction of the client. They must also be able to show that they can identify, assess and manage design and project risks, especially regarding change control.
