Senior Engineer (Rivers and Coastal)

Salary 30,000 – 40,000
Location Surrey – Redhill

Responsibility:
• Responsible for the successful delivery of projects to budget and programme, whilst meeting the appropriate quality and safety standards. These may be defined by performance indicators used by a client
• Responsible for the financial performance of projects and internal reporting on these, and the management of projects in accordance with companies procedures

Client focus:
• One of the main points of contact for a client on projects, solving routine queries/issues and deciding on the appropriate action
People management:
• Responsible for allocating tasks/duties to multi-disciplinary teams comprising engineers (civil, structural, geotechnical, MEICA), hydraulic modellers, hydrologists, environmentalists, landscape architects and quantity surveyors and ensuring cohesive team working

Problem solving:
• Recognise, define and resolve problems within own activities and by reference to established procedures and processes
Communication:
• Produce bespoke correspondence and contribute to documents that contain specialist/technical material
• Deliver presentations internally and externally and provide explanations and advice on non-routine queries
• Lead team meetings and inter-team meetings

Planning:
• Responsible for organising own workload to complete day to day duties and to a medium term horizon

Requirements:
Academic and professional qualifications:
• Degree in relevant subject i.e. Civil or Environmental Engineering
• MICE , MCIWEM or equivalent
• MSc in related subject desirable

Background and experience:
• Experience of a range of flood risk management projects and leading teams in the delivery of such projects
• Ability to identify project risks and consider appropriate mitigation
• Working in a partnering environment under a framework agreement desirable

Knowledge base:
• Good understanding of either coastal or fluvial flood risk management
• A working knowledge of activities such as, appraisal of options, costs, economics, fluvial or coastal processes, reporting and detailed design
• Knowledge of the processes used by clients, such as the Environment Agency, in the delivery of projects and their business "drivers" desirable

Skills:
• Work effectively with a wide range of fellow professionals, internal and external, and non expert organisations
• Communicate effectively with team members, sub-consultants, clients, other framework suppliers and external organisations
• Ability to write clearly and concisely producing well written reports
• Intermediate skills such as use of systems, software packages and/or databases
