Senior Rivers Engineer

Locationa: Edinburgh

Salary: 32-40000 GBP



The successful candidate will operate in a thriving Water Management team which undertakes a wide variety of flood risk management commissions involving flood defence, river engineering, drainage, hydrology, hydraulic modelling, catchment planning and fluvial geomorphology.

Recent projects, the type of which the successful candidate would be expected to contribute to in a supervisory or managerial capacity, have included Flood Prevention Schemes for Local Authorities, and river engineering, flood risk management and drainage works for a range of public and private sector clients.

The successful candidate will also be involved in expanding the business and will be required to input to or lead on proposal work

The principal function of this position is to provide technical leadership and project management support to project teams within the client's Water Business Group in Edinburgh.

The priorities of this role include:

technically lead flood risk management commissions
lead and manage small project teams
responsible for project financial reporting
responsible for delivery of project outputs
responsible for bid preparation and submission



The ideal candidate should possess and be able to demonstrate the following skills and knowledge.



· design of river and flood defence works

· contract preparation and contract management

· project management

· supervision / mentoring / coaching of staff

· independent thinker, problem solver

· some familiarity with hydrology, hydraulic modelling and flood risk assessment would be advantageous

· Masters degree in Civil Engineering or other relevant discipline (consideration will be given to applicants with a Bachelors Degree together with appropriate background)

· Chartered (or near chartered) member of Institution of Civil Engineers or other relevant institution
